Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment which aims to restore function of the body and well-being of the individual. It recognizes that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function and mobility of the body structure and uses natural treatment methods to improve health, quality of life, mobility and performance of the patient.
The principle of osteopathy is that the human body is one unit, so the various tissues connecting the body are interrelated. The osteopath detects the causes of the problems and then they are able to treat them using osteopathic manipulation. Osteopaths work with their hands and use a variety of techniques for treatment that are not painful, violent or traumatic and they do not use drugs or surgery. Therapy may include soft tissue techniques, passive joint movements or manipulative techniques employed to improve the mobility of the joints.
